Luggage Rail Upgrade

Price: $20 bucks from Salvage yard

Cause: Wanted to install factory spare tire roof mount on my luggage rack. But they only fit 1991 or newer.

Basics: Ok, First off. This did and didn't work. That is why I have no pictures. But, I tried to put the newer setup on my 1990 Jeep. The newer rails where shorter than mine to start with. Plus, all the center holes lined up well. But the ends weren't in the right spot. Oh well. I tried to put the factory spare tire roof mount on my 1990, then found out it only fits on the newer ones. That is why I went thru this whole thing.

 It actually did work, but I didn't like the fact that the whole luggage rack rails couldn't be tightened down with the heavy spare tire I had.

But the dealership did take the spare tire roof mount back. Thank goodness. that thing was like 130 bucks or so.

Pros: You can install them and Was able to put the spare tire mount on. But they are stronger rails.

Cons: Really wasn't a perfect match up on the roof holes. Plus, it was a pain in the butt when some screws broke off.
